Born in 1943 in Irkutsk. In 1972 graduated Odessa politechnic institute in specialty «Industry enterprises, cities and agriculture electric power supply». Since 1967 worked in OPI as electric engeneer, head engeneer. Today he is Vice-rector for university development and material-technic maintenance. He actively occupies problems of capital building finance and material-technical university base development.

Poltavchenko S.V. is senior lecturer at «Industry enterprises electric power supply» Department.

The major scientific course connects with problems of research covering materials for machine's details rub surfaces and machine's details surfaces operability reconstruction by detanational and metal-and-polymer surfaces.

Scientific research results are used by repair services of Ukferry shipping company and Azov steam navigation.

In 2000 he defended Ph. D. Thesis. He published 12 scientific articles. Poltavchenko S.V. took part in international seminars, where problems of detail's deterioration surfaces reconstruction were viewed.

Sergey Vadimovich obtained the rank «Honoured Worker of Ukraine National Education» .

He effective goes in for sport, especially lawn tennis.
